Healdsburg Plaza • Healdsburg, CA

I usually review wines and wineries on Key & Swirl. It’s the heart of my content. Today, however I would like to start sharing, even suggesting, “Wine Adventures.”

If you haven’t been to the town of Healdsburg CA, you are missing something special. Healdsburg is in the center of the Sonoma Valley wine country and is the epitome of small town America. It is cute, quaint and has all the trappings associated with small town America except… it’s in the heart of wine country.

When you enter Healdsburg, it feels much like the other towns in wine country. Small town feel, small roads and a slower pace. Just a few blocks off the freeway along Healdsburg Avenue you will stumble across the Healdsburg plaza. A square block of good ole, “Americana,” public park goodness. The massive shade trees are inviting and strolling eastward you will be drawn to the expansive gazebo sitting lazily in the shade of its little plaza forest. The plaza has a way of transporting you, slowing things down and making you feel at home.

Healdsburg Plaza is home to many places of interest making it a great place to spend a few hours or a few days. The adventurous could grab a room at one of the swanky inns around the plaza, shop until you drop, walk to dozens of winery tasting rooms that ring the plaza, get a relaxing spa treatment and indulge in delectable morsels at any number of amazing restaurants all of which will have your rubbing your belly on the walk back to your cozy bed.

If you are making a wine adventure list… make sure you put Healdsburg on it. By the way, don’t be surprised if you aren’t tempted to move there before your trip is over.
